Andrew DiMino CarbSmartWhy is it that we usually say that “Thanksgiving is the time of year we give thanks for…” and list a bunch of things we are thankful for?

There’s nothing wrong with that, but why aren’t we vocal more often about this incredible life we have been given?

Most of us have successfully changed aspects of our life through low carb that are improving our health, extending our life, and helping us enjoy everything this life has to give.

Well, this Thanksgiving, let’s try to be thankful more often and let’s try to tell the people we are thankful for that we are happy to have them in our lives.

I’m happy to have you in my life. I’m happy to be a low carb dieter.

In this month’s CarbSmart Magazine, Amy Dungan takes over as Managing Editor of CarbSmart Magazine. Dana Carpender, our first Managing Editor, is busy writing cookbooks and interacting with the low carb community. Although she’ll still be busy writing articles for us each month, Dana needs to do what she is known for – writing the best damn low carb recipes anywhere.

Amy is such an important member of this team that she was a natural for taking over for us as Managing Editor. So let today be the first day that I give thanks to Dana Carpender for shaping the direction of CarbSmart Magazine, and thanks to Amy Dungan for making this magazine the high-quality resource for the low carb community that it is. In that regard, I also need to say thanks to John Furkin, who work so hard behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly and looking fantastic.

I am also thankful for all our amazing writers, and the many mouth-watering Thanksgiving Day low carb recipes we have for you this month. The low carb recipes we have to go beyond the normal recipes you’d expect from a low carb magazine focused on Thanksgiving Day dinner. As I mentioned, Dana is still coming up with incredible low carb recipes including this month’s Cranberry Chutney, Sweet Potato-Pumpkin Casserole, and Sausage-Pine Nut Dressing. For a Mediterranean take on turkey, also the Moroccan Spiced Turkey Breast recipe. Tracey Rollinson has Sautéed Pumpkin, Kale and Sage, Apple Sage and Thyme Rolls, and Cranberry-Almond Panna Cotta recipes to go beyond the normal Thanksgiving Day fair. And that’s not all–there are many, many more holiday low carb recipes to surprise and satisfy your guests.

But this month is not just about low carb recipes. Thanksgiving and other holiday meals sometimes lead us to temptations and destructive activities that we really shouldn’t have to deal with. Thankfully we have incredible experts on making the most of the holiday season without sacrificing all the great low carb success you’ve had all year. Jackie Eberstein, Amy Dungan, and Valerie Berkowitz each have strategies to help you enjoy the holidays without forsaking everything else you’ve done this year.

There’s so much more beyond the recipes this month that I’m going to stop yammering and let you get right to it.

As for me, I’m thankful for Dr. Atkins who showed me in 1998 that everything we were being told about nutrition including the need to eat low-fat meals, plenty of pasta and fruit, 100 calorie processed snack foods and other unhealthy junk was going to eventually kill me until he showed me the healthy Low Carb truth.

Enjoy and give thanks every day for better health through low carb!

  1. Hi Andrew

I downloaded nov magazine, about three quarters at least of the articles, when I go to read them they just boot me out of the magazine and it just goes back to my news stand. I tried it for about a half hour last night and it just kept happening. Do you have any suggestions?

    Thank You

    • Dawn, we believe there is an error in the file. We have uploaded a new version and we believe if you try to re-upload the issue (the app should ask you automatically) that it should be fixed. Please try to re-download after 7pm tonight.

      Andrew

    • Dawn:

I believe the problem with November 2013 issue of CarbSmart Magazine is fixed. We believe it was only affecting the non-retina version of the magazine. To fix it, open the CarbSmart Magazine app, tap the screen to show the menu at the bottom, click the “Library” button, press the green “read” button for the issue so the issue will re-download.

This will fix it. For some people, it might be suggested to after re-downloading the issue to re-boot the iPad.

Please let me know if that works for you.

      Sincerely,
      Andrew
