Banana bread has always been one of my favorite desserts. I don’t know if it is the “banana” or the “bread” part but I had to give it up when I became a low carber in 1998 and I haven’t had it since. My mother did not make a lot of desserts at home but my aunts (her sisters) sure did. A couple of them were famous for their banana bread.

So when LC Foods asked me to review their Low Carb Fresh Baked Banana Bread I was more than happy. This product is a pre-made, ready-to-eat loaf of low carb banana bread. It ships fresh from their facility in Raleigh, NC on the day it is baked. When it arrived, I put it in my refrigerator.

Low Carb Fresh Baked Banana Bread Review

Over the course of a couple of days, I tried the banana bread a few ways. After I photographed the loaf for this post, I grabbed the end piece and sat down with a cup of strong coffee. Then over time I tried it with butter, cream cheese and whipped coconut cream.

Banana Bread Smell Test

First, the sniff test. It has the sweet smell of banana bread. Now it is not a deep, deep banana smell–remember that a normal banana bread recipe calls for 3-4 ripe bananas and a cup of sugar–the Low Carb Fresh Baked Banana Bread by LC Foods uses resistant wheat starches (that are not absorbed by the small intestines), flax seed meal, and vital wheat gluten as its base with natural banana and brown sugar flavoring added. This gives it a solid foundation, some really good banana bread flavoring and 90-95% less carbohydrates per serving.

Banana Bread Taste Test

I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. This banana bread is as close as you can get to “regular” banana bread without using carb-laden bananas and sugar. Using no bananas means it’s not as moist as “regular” banana bread so top it with something (butter, cream cheese, whipped cream, etc.) or have your favorite low carb beverage ready. Because some people have nut allergies LC Foods does not make their Fresh Baked Banana Bread with chopped nuts, but if you want to make your own with nuts, you will want to try their Low Carb Banana Bread Mix.

LC Foods is a company that does not use artificial sweeteners so their pre-made, low-carb banana bread is sweetened with organic stevia and natural luo han guo (monk fruit). This combination made a close approximation to the banana breads I remember my aunts used to make–just maybe a little less sweet–and of course with much less carbohydrates.

On day 2, I took another slice and topped it with regular cream cheese. Now, that was awesome. The addition of some healthy full-fat cream cheese made a good product even better.

Over the course of the next couple of days I tried the banana bread with butter, whipped cream, and even low-sugar fruit spread. Leaving the banana bread in the refrigerator extends the shelf life and the toppings added some sweetness and some fat to make a dessert even my non-low carb girlfriend enjoyed.

Great for Holidays and More

If you are thinking about serving LC Foods’ Low Carb Fresh Baked Banana Bread for Thanksgiving, Christmas or at any other holiday, your friends and family are going to love you. Since LC Foods does not bake this product every day, it may take an extra 7-10 days before they ship it so plan ahead and try to order a couple weeks in advance. It will arrive fresh and you can refrigerate it or freeze it until you are ready to serve.

If you want to bake your own Low Carb Banana Bread, try their Low Carb Banana Bread Mix that has the same basic ingredients as the fresh baked banana bread. You’ll just need to add butter, coconut oil, eggs, vanilla, and sour cream and bake. You can even add nuts to make it extra special!

Bottom line – Low Carb Fresh Baked Banana Bread by LC Foods is a tasty substitute for non-low carb banana bread and will satisfy your family during the holidays or any time of year. Only 1 gram of net carbs per slice, easy to order, easy to serve so I rate it 4 stars out of 5.
