LC-Foods Chocolate is Not Your Typical Low-Carb Chocolate

The only way you used to be able to buy low-carb, sugar-free chocolates was with the sugar alcohol maltitol. This ingredient was perfect for sugar-free chocolate because it tasted and bulked up like regular sugar but gave us horrible gas and caused many of us to suffer from a laxative effect. LC-Foods took a better approach and instead of using maltitol, their sugar-free chocolate blend includes only a little bit of inulin (chicory root) and a little bit of erythritol as a combined sweetener. Yes, erythritol is technically a sugar alcohol but it is known as natural and to usually not cause stomach distress in most people. LC-Foods only uses a small amount to mix with the inulin. Their blend of sugar-free chocolate tastes great and doesn’t hurt our tummies.

Health Benefits of Coconut for Low-Carb Dieters

What a long road it’s been for coconuts. Just a few years ago coconuts had a bad reputation as being an “artery clogging, cholesterol-packed” food that contributed to heart disease. This sad misunderstanding is due to the maligning of saturated fat. Today however, it is well known that non-hydrogenated saturated fat is great for us and the coconut is making a huge comeback. Coconuts are highly nutritious, rich in fiber, HIGH IN SATURATED FAT and packed with essential vitamins and minerals.

The best coconut meat is derived from mature coconuts which contain a harder flesh. The white flesh is shredded, collected, and then cold pressed at 90–100° F.  Unprocessed, unrefined virgin coconut is not hydrogenated and is a safe choice for consumption. And non-hydrogenated coconut contains the healthy saturated fat which is beneficial for a low carb diet.

Toasted coconut is coconut which has been briefly toasted at high heat to brown it and bring out a nutty flavor. Coconut meat is naturally unsweetened so the best toasted coconut is unsweetened. To toast coconut, the coconut meat is spread out on a large pan and heated in an oven.

Whether as coconut oil or coconut flesh, these benefits include weight loss, better brain function, better skin health, and protection against heart disease and stroke and much more.

Recent studies have shown that the type of fat present in coconuts are medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). When you eat coconut flesh, the MCTs it contains are transported from the intestinal tract to the liver and immediately transformed into fuel (fat for fuel). MCTs do not circulate in the body and do not deposit in fat tissues in the body. The MCTs in coconuts are converted into ketone bodies which are a replacement energy source for the brain (brain food).

How are Chocolate, Almond & Toasted Coconut LC-Snack Packs?

As I write this, I am still munching on a serving of Chocolate Chips & Toasted Coconut LC-Snack Pack. 1 serving is perfect to get me through a Las Vegas afternoon. I’ve talked about the sugar-free chocolate before – their low-carb, sugar-free chocolate chips with inulin and erythritol are safe for low carbers.

The toasted coconut has a tropical nutty taste that doesn’t overpower the sugar-free chocolate chips – it enhances them! Even though it is sugar-free, it still has a slightly sweet taste that is not bitter at all.

Each bag contains 2 quarter cup servings that each have 2g net carbs.

Chocolate Chips & Toasted Coconut Low-Carb LC-Snack Packs have an amazingly delicious taste, I give this easy-to-carry snack 4.5 stars out of 5. LC-Foods lets you order them individually or in packs of six or twelve. I suggest you buy the 12 pack so you’re less likely to run out. Don’t forget to give some to your favorite low-carb friends and family.
