Andrew’s Story – I am just like you.
I’ve spent most of my life overweight. I tried diet after diet but nothing worked. I did what the doctors and the health experts told me to do: avoid fat and eat low-fat foods. That’s how I gained the most weight. None of these fads worked for me.
In 1998, a coworker lost weight. He lost 25 pounds in 2 months. I was stunned. He looked great and was very excited about losing the weight. He told me about this book Dr. Atkins wrote in the 1970s, about a way to eat without worrying about counting calories or grams of fat.
He told me about his diet. He was successful in losing weight because he ate meals that were low in carbs, moderate in protein, and had normal amounts of fat. He told me how he did it, and why it works, but the simple fact was that he lost weight following the Atkins Diet.
I bought Dr. Atkins’ book and learned about how carbs cause blood sugar and insulin spikes and how that causes cravings and fat storage. I realized I was eating too much processed junk food. So I went to my kitchen and took out all the cereal, pasta, bread, Pop-Tarts, crackers, rice, wheat flour, potatoes, tortilla chips, and everything else that was wrong for me. I made a resolution to change my diet. I set a date and started eating the right foods based on Dr. Atkins’ writing.
By December 1999, I had lost 50 pounds of weight by eating low-carb. I felt great. I had more energy. I ate healthy foods, didn’t crave pasta or other starchy carbs, and I wanted to share my experiences with the low-carb lifestyle with everyone who wanted to know more. Over the years, I’ve helped thousands of people lose weight, keep the weight off, and lessen the effects of diabetes and avoid obesity.
