Kentucky Hot Brown Low-Carb Gluten-Free Recipe

Kentucky Hot Brown is a traditional recipe for a hot turkey sandwich.

It can be served as an entrée or a sandwich.

But by using regular bread it stops it from being Low-Carb, so here is a Low-Carb, Keto, Gluten-Free recipe for your Thanksgiving leftovers.

If I’m making a sandwich, I like to roll it up in a large Romaine leaf instead of using low-carb bread, but the choice is yours.

It’s delicious any time of year, but remember it’s also a great way to use up your turkey leftovers after Thanksgiving.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bacon
  • 1 tablespoon grass-fed butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • few drops Tabasco sauce (optional – to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon Thick it Up
  • 4 large Romaine lettuce leaves (if making sandwich version)
  • 4 slices of turkey breast, medium thick
  • 4 slices of tomato

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon until crisp. Set aside.
  2. Preheat the broiler.
  3. To make the sauce, melt butter in a saucepan. Add the cream and water and stir over medium high heat to combine.
  4. Add the shredded cheddar cheese and Tabasco sauce and continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the cheese is melted and well blended.
  5. Add the Thick it Up 1 teaspoon at a time, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
  6. Place the sliced turkey in a baking pan.
  7. Pour the cheese sauce over the turkey and place a tomato slice in the center of each turkey slice.
  8. Put a piece of bacon on either side of the tomato.
  9. Place under the broiler until the cheese starts to bubble and begin to turn slightly brown.
  10. Transfer the Hot Brown to dinner plates (if you are serving it as an entree) or to large Romaine lettuce leaves (if you are serving it serving as a sandwich).

Notes

VARIATIONS
To serve Hot Brown as a low carb sandwich, slide the broiled Hot Brown onto Romaine lettuce leave.

To serve it as a sandwich for non-low carbers, place a thick slice of toasted bread under the turkey before completing and broiling.
